About Stratasys
3D printing is a manufacturing process in which computerized CAD files are converted into a physical object layer by layer. Since 3D printing works by adding layers, it is technically called as additive manufacturing. But essentially, 3D printing and additive manufacturing are the same technologies. It is now accepted in India and other countries that 3D printing is a disruptive technology all set to change the way manufacturing is done. And leading from the front is Stratasys, the industry leader in 3D printing solutions. Known for their advanced 3D printing technology, Stratasys has created a niche market in India and other countries for quality conscious manufacturers whose customers demand high precision products.
Stratasys Origin One Printer
As printing speeds and accuracy improve, all the sectors that use 3D printers have been looking at them as more than prototyping machines. “We are accelerating into the Additive Manufacturing 2.0 era, in which we see global manufacturing leaders move beyond prototyping to fully embrace the agility that 3D printing brings to the entire manufacturing value chain,” said Stratasys CEO Dr. Yoav Zeif at the launch of three new 3D printers, one of which is the Origin One. “The disruptions we are seeing today on both the supply and demand side of global supply chains are a clear sign that the status quo isn’t working. Additive manufacturing gives companies the total flexibility to decide when, where, and how to produce parts. That’s why we’re committed to being the complete provider of polymer 3D printing solutions for our world-class customer base.”
Origin One is a transformative 3D Printer enabling mass production of end-use parts in a diverse range of high-performance materials.
P3™ Technology
What separates Stratasys Origin One printer from others is the P3 technology, which is based on photopolymerization. Photopolymerization is the process of linking small molecules called monomers into chain-like larger molecules called as polymers or oligomers using light (typically UV light) as the primary source of binding. Two of the most prominent 3D printing processes that use photopolymerization are Stereolithography and Digital Light Processing. The Origin One from Stratasys is based on the Digital Light Processing (DLP) 3D printing technology.
What makes P3 unique?
The innovative P3 technology from Stratasys is a combination of perfectly controlled programmable steps that enhances precision and optimizes production. It extends DLP printing’s capabilities and supports the next generation of production applications made with photopolymers. This powerful combination of production-grade technology and performance materials unlocks functional end-use applications in 3D printing with competitive throughput and part cost. The P3 technology optimizes the light, temperature, pull forces and pneumatics to optimize prints for the best possible results. With P3, manufacturers can achieve injection moulding part quality and surface finish with incredible accuracy, in a diverse and continuously growing range of high-performance materials. Below are critical aspects of how the P3 technology works:
Key benefits of P3 technology:
Mass Manufacturing made Simpler
Geared for mass manufacturing and not merely for rapid prototyping, Origin One is a viable option for industrial production. The optimized build volume, compact footprint, and minimal power requirements of Origin One enable manufacturers to maximize production capacity per unit of space efficiently. The modular hardware and minimal post-process time allows manufacturers to ramp up production as and when needed. Origin One prints details less than 50 microns, allowing manufacturers to easily print features as small as a hair or solid large moulds in the size of the build area with the same exceptional accuracy and consistency.
The hallmark of any good 3D Printer is accuracy, consistency, detail and throughput. The Origin One excels in all these criteria, allowing manufacturers to take on the most demanding applications. Another feather in the cap for the Origin One is the smooth, beautiful surface quality of the finished part / object without any need for secondary finishing, sanding, painting or additional processing. This simple and fast post-processing workflow, with minimal facility requirements, makes scaled production feasible, adding credibility to Origin One’s claim as a mass manufacturing printer.
Abundance of Raw Material
Mass production requires a choice of raw materials. The versatility of Origin One 3D Printer allows it to handle 3D printing material as diverse as biocompatible medical devices to aerospace-grade components and everything in between. Additionally, Stratasys actively works with leading chemical companies to co-develop innovative photopolymers in several categories to unlock end-use applications in 3D printing. These resins are engineered to be easy to handle and rapidly post-processed, and they have a long shelf life. Customers can choose from a wide range of single component, commercial-grade materials, developed on and validated for Origin One.
